Another common ingredient to watch out for in your personal care products is PROPYLENE GLYCOL. It’s a chemical used to enhance penetration of products and keep them stabilized in hot and cold temperatures. It’s also used in: antifreeze brake and hydraulic fluid, paint and coatings, floor wax, portable water systems, swimming pools, liquid laundry detergents, pet food and tobacco. It’s a well known skin irritant (see link below) and it’s linked to more serious health problems in large concentrations. There are thousands of personal care products containing this ingredient including hair products, moisturizers, cleansers, deodorants, tooth whiteners, acne treatments and more. It’s easy to allow it to add up in concentration. Other chemical names for propylene glycol are: 1,2-Dihydroxypropane; 2-Hydroxypropanol; Methylethy Glycol; 1,2-Propanediol; Propane-1,2-Diol.
